St. Mary's Hospital is a 370-bed, fully accredited, modern healthcare facility located on a 21-acre campus and has been servicing Decatur's healthcare needs since 1878. It is part of the Hospital Sisters Health System, which owns and operates 13 hospitals in Illinois and Wisconsin.
St. Mary's Hospital began a $31 million redevelopment project that includes a new state-of-the-art Emergency Department. The construction project, completed in 2011, is the first part of a 3-phase, $70 million redevelopment of the St. Mary's campus that will meet the changing health care needs of patients and their families, as well as physicians and other clinicians.
St. Mary's Hospital has a 12-bed intensive care unit, a progressive care unit, general, medical, surgical floors, general pediatrics, oncology floor, intensive care unit, and an obstetrics/gynecological area. It is the only provider of inpatient mental health services to the community and has both general adult and adolescent psychiatric units.
The Emergency Department sees an annual volume of 33,000 patients. Emergency physicians must respond to all codes and do not write admitting orders. Ancillary support is available 24 hours per day. Telemetry and x-ray facilities are present within the ED. The radiology department has 24-hour CT/ultrasound/ nuclear medicine and MRIs available. The full service laboratory is located near the emergency room and is available 24 hours daily.
